Melatonin Supplements and ADHD.

by Madusha Emeka

ADHD Kids have a lot of trouble concentrating. In the day they are hyperactive and at night the hardly sleep.

In a bid to help their ADHD child sleep better, many parents are now beginning to turn to Melatonin Supplements as a way to help them sleep better.

Some parents have confirmed that melatonin helps their kids with ADHD sleep better but there are certain ADHD/ Bipolar disorder drugs that Health Professionals recommend not to be used with Melatonin Supplements.

They say it could be a deadly mix for your child.

Haven done extensive research on this and spoken with health professionals, I came to the conclusion that melatonin supplements should only be administered to a child with ADHD strictly under a doctor's advice.

Melatonin for ADHD child
by: Anonymous

At the advice of my sons Pediatrician I tried Melatonin starting at 1mg and moving up. We're up to 5mg and it hasn't worked at all. No matter how many hours he's awake or how much energy he spends, we cannot get him to sleep. He's still up until 1am or later.

Melatonin
by: Anonymous

I am shocked that after one night of melatonin (4 mgs.) I didn't have to reach for my ant- anxiety medication today! What a great Mood Stabilizer and one of the most refreshing sleep I've had in years!

Melatonin
by: Nicky

I have two children with ADHD and I use Melatonin supplements to help them sleep. It works better than the sleep medications prescribed. The doctor also recommended the melatonin. It doesn't cause them to be sleepy in the morning.

Benefits outweigh the risks
by: Anonymous

My whole life I've hardly been able to get up in the morning, and then still felt exhausted. I have been habitually late to school and work, which has added other negatives to my list.

I've used other sleep medications, but most exacerbated my symptoms. About a year ago, I started using Melatonin nightly.

I take a substantial number of medications, including anti-depressants, stimulants for ADHD, and a mood stabilizer. I started with a small dose of Melatonin (3 mg.) and immediately realized improvement of my symptoms. I was able to get up in the morning with less effort and often awake on my own. I feel rested and get more accomplished, more focused and less fuzzy-headed all day.

I have gradually increased the dosage to a level where I more consistently sleep soundly, awake easily and feel refreshed.

Of course, always be cautious about mixing medications, but remember that melatonin is naturally produced in the body and that has to be better than adding another non-naturally occurring hybrid chemical.

by: TJ Chambers

On this page, it talks about an herbal formula that has Lobelia in it. In small dosages, it improves the function of the pineal gland to produce its own melatonin.
