Wow I'm glad I'm not alone

My daughter who is 17 and a senior in high school was tested at the end of last year at school for a learning disability. They say she has one.The school has done the 504 plan and hopefully helping her learn new technigues in study habits. She is outgoing, plays sports and usually kind hearted to her friends. I was searching around the internet and came across this site and first took the test for her. Out of the 80 questions she(we) answered 41 of them were yes. So know I have appointments to confirm if she does have adhd. It has been so hard for her in school remembering, studying and not passing tests. Or what time to be somewhere for school functions. I have an advocate helping me. Because I wasn't sure if I was asking or doing the right things for her. It seemed like the school just wanted her to pass the regents and they could be done with her. I worry about her future also. Will she be able to keep up in college get a decent job and be able to survive on her own? I am so thankful for this web site it is very informative and so glad I can come here and get answers. I just had to write this to get it off my chest. Thanks for listening.

Wow I'm glad I'm not alone

My daughter was diagnosed after her first year of college. Be thankful you child was diagnosed before she got there. With accomodations from the school, you daughter should be able to do ok. Just be sure she really loves what she majors in. For someone with ADHD having to take a bunch of classes in a subject you do not have a passion for can be extremely difficult. We are currently struggling to find the right medicine for her, I am having a feeling there may not be one for her because of side effects. A low course load the first semester with possible assistance for note taking and test taking can be a real help to her. Be sure and ask for everything she is entitled to. Best of luck to you!
